To celebrate Australia Day I have filled the window with fabric and patterns from Australian designers.
For your chance to win a pattern from an Australian Designer, simply make a purchase of $30* or more from now until Saturday 16th February 2013 and enter the draw.
There will one draw each week for the next three weeks and the weekly winner will win a pattern from one of the fantastic Australian designers listed below. All the entries will go in the final draw on Sunday 17th February 2013 for a fat quarter pack from either Leesa Chandler, Kellie Wulfsohn, or Michele Hill’s in stock fabric ranges.

Gloria Loughman to teach here in June 2013

Award winning Australian quilter and author Gloria Loughman is booked to teach in Bright on June 27 & 28 2013
Gloria has a new book coming out in March 2013 and I am keen for her to return to Bright and teach us something new from the book. The title is Radiant Landscapes, it will be in stock once it is released.

Shades of the Forest is the class, it is a two day class which Gloria describes on her website as follows:
A forest is often filled with a play of light as the sun filters through to some areas and leaves others in mysterious gloomy shade.
A way of recreating this dappled sunshine backdrop is to tile a background in a variation of colors. The addition of detailed trees, branches and leaves in the foreground adds perspective and interest.
The tiled background is created by fusing small squares or rectangles. Consideration of the season and type of trees will be important design elements. Background colors could range from the stunning autumn tones of reds, browns, oranges and gold, to the new crisp greens of spring to the grey and white tones of the stark bleak winter. Participants will design their own wall hanging working from a photos, sketch or picture. Fusing, fabric painting, free motion stitching, bobbin work and quilting techniques will be included. This workshop is suitable for new and experienced quilters with patterns and suitable hand dyed fabrics available in class.

The class price is $190 for the two day workshop including tuition, morning tea, light lunch and afternoon tea each day. A deposit of $50 is required at time of booking to secure your place. New class - Wristlet Purse

Come to class and make the Wristlet Purse. This cute little purse has been designed by Moonshine Designs and is the perfect size to take with you when all you need is your mobile phone, keys, lippy and some cash. In just a couple of hours you will learn how to put in a zip, some free motion quilting (optional), complete your purse and make a sweet flower brooch to pin on it.

The cost is $32, which includes all the fabric (you can choose any fabric in stock), hardware, pattern and tuition. All you need to bring is your sewing machine and sewing supplies. Bookings essential. Contact me for any further details.

5 years and still loving it

The shop has been open five years today! I am sitting here with my friend Suzanne celebrating with a glass of bubbly. I am so lucky to be doing what I am, thank you to all of you who have supported the shop over the last 5 years and I look forward to seeing you next time you visit us in Bright.

Valdani threads cause whiteout

I have been progressively increasing the colour range of Valdani stranded cottons over the last year. Whilst I was in Melbourne last month, I took the opportunity to choose some more colours and collect another hanger. I now have about 70 colours in stock. The next decision was where to put them. My husband came in during the week and we moved things around and hung both the stands. The threads look great hanging together, but because the wall is brown brick, they didn’t stand out as you can see.

My husband returned today and we painted the wall - what a difference a coat of paint makes. Painting brick is a tedious task and one that neither of us enjoy, nevertheless we painted. That wall of the shop was the last one to be painted and now all of the main part of the shop is white. I think you will agree it looks fantastic.

Glacier Star workshop day 3 & 4

Making good progress on the quilt. So much to take in. Today we also had a skpe chat with Judel (Judy’s daughter), who looks after the Quiltworx website. We got to see behind the scenes which was very informative. The blocks we worked on were the centre snowflake block, the lone star block and the feathered star block. Those who had two people working on their quilt even got to cut out and piece some of the flying geese outer border. I am not up to there yet.

The lone star, goose in the pond and snowflake are sewn together and form the centre of the quilt.

Now it is starting to come together. I will keep you posted on the progress. You will be able to start making yours in January 2013. I am taking preorders now. Email me at lovequilting@sewbright.com.au to register your interest.

Glacier Star workshop day 2

Today was a mixture of sewing, demonstrations and lectures. We were also treated to a tour of the Victorian Textiles warehouse. The blocks we were working on are the
New York Beauty block and the Goose in the Pond block.

The method of foundation paper piecing Judy has created is extremely efficient. From the cutting technique, the way the fabrics are organised and the chain piecing, it is all starting to make sense and become engrained in us.

Glacier Star Workshop day 1

Busy day today, our first day with Judy Niemeyer from Quiltworx in Montana, USA. Judy is here to teach shop owners her method of foundation paper piecing. It is a great technique for constructing quilts which look way more complicated than they are. This method breaks the quilt down into manageable sections. We are learning heaps and in the new year, I will be ready to teach these techniques and help you make this quilt.

There’s how many days till Christmas?!

With just over 10 weeks until Christmas, it is time to get cracking and make those decorations. The Home of Christmas advent calendar is in stock now and can easily be made up in one day. The kit price is $40.55, which includes the panel, quilters muslin, iron on pellon, backing fabric and binding.

Need help to make yours? Then come to one of the Christmas decorations classes and I will help you make yours. Classes are scheduled for weekdays and weekends, just contact me to book in. There are a number of different decorations available to make including these snowflakes which have been cut from the Flurry panel

Footy quilts for footy fans

I am excited to show you some designs I have been working on in EQ7 for quilts in the colours of AFL footy teams. Each quilt is approximately 48″ x 55″ (122cm x 140cm). I will have patterns in all the team colours, but here are the quilts for the final four teams of the season. If you hurry you could have one made before the Grand Final. My team didn’t make it to the finals, so I don’t really mind who wins.

You can personalise them by sewing your teams patch on the front and the number of your favourite player on the back.

The patterns will be $15 and the fabric kits will vary in price, starting at $39 for the fabric for the top and binding. I prefer to use Emma Louise Premium Quilters muslin for all my solid colours. It comes in about 40 colours, I currently have about 26 colours in stock.

I am also testing ways to carry the quilt, for those who will take theirs to the footy. Looking at folding up the quilt and tucking it into a pocket, quillow style, which with the addition of a strap will make a bag to carry the quilt.
